Delicious VS Google Searches

I searched for "black friday" on both Delicious and Google. I was disappointed that the most recent search on Delicious for that tag brought up pages of items that were not what I was looking for. I am looking for sites and ads for "Black Friday" and Google search had what I wanted. None of the results on the Delicious search were very recent or reliable. I couldn't find much of anything I had wanted to see. Delicious brought up 516 pages Google produced 748,000,000 sites

Clearly Google had lots of the top sites and ads that have been leaked already. The ones on the first few pages have all been added in the last month. It even brought up my blog on the Dollar General Black Friday ad I had posted in the last 5 days on the first page. I will stick to using Google for searching the internet.

To Share or Not to Share

We all know that Flickr is the social networking site to upload your pictures, but to also share with your friends or family. Other users can also find your pictures if set to public and share. What sets Flickr apart from many other sites is they add a Creative Commons licensing to all the pictures you upload.

Why have a Creative Commons License on your pictures? It keeps others from taking your photos and trying to use them on their own websites or blogs and taking credit for a picture they didn't take. It wouldn't necessarily pose a problem of most family pictures, but you are a photographer trying to make a living on the pictures you take. Then thousands of others are using them without giving you credit. You lose money.

The upside to this problem is to use a Creative Commons License. You have many options on how restrictive you want for each photo. Users will still share your work, but have to give you credit. This is a great way to drive others to your website or blog! You can generate more traffic and possibly more clients.
I personally do share my pictures. There are times I add a logo of my blog to a picture in a spot that would be hard for anyone to edit. Many times I take pictures for giveaways, and not upset if others share my pictures. This is why I also add in tags to bring more traffic to my blog. I do receive a few hundred visitors looking for pictures and find my blog.

How to Add Pictures on a Blogger Post

Flickr is extremely popular with many users on the internet. It makes sharing and embedding pictures very easy. It is also a great way for people to share with their pictures with friends and family. I know I have family scattered all over the country so I enjoy being able to connect with them on sites like Flickr. There are two ways to post pictures on a blog post. The first one is to just upload the picture and publish directly on Blogger. It is very easy to upload. The picture below is one I uploaded directly into this blog post.

First you click the picture icon in the post settings. Then you will browse by uploading a picture directly from your computer. You can center the picture or align it to the right or left and choose the size you want to the image to appear on the post. The biggest benefit is you do not have to open another window to find html as it's all done on Blogger. The second way to post a picture on a blog post is to copy and paste the html from a picture hosting service like Flickr.

walgreensclearance

It is also very easy and you do not have to host the picture on Blogger which saves memory and space. By hosting on a site like Flickr, other users can share your picture if you made it public. The more your picture is visible on more than one site, the more people will see as it will be in search engines. I prefer to upload my pictures directly on Blogger as it is easy and quick. I can add custom tags to the pictures that I upload onto Blogger. The tags also helps to have my image in search engines, which brings more visitors to my blog.

How Financial Companies Keep Content Fresh

I read an interesting article called Financial Companies Use RSS Feeds which helps them to find the newest information about interest rates, stocks, loan rates, and more. They were slow to adopt but now are using RSS Feeds to keep an edge over competitors. As many laws are constantly changing on Tax Returns this is extremely helpful to tax preparers. One mistake could cost their clients either too much or miss out on a bigger refund. Technology is continually changing how corporations and businesses must change to keep ahead and profitable.

Feed Reader Experiences

I use a feed reader through Google since I am already on the site for my blogs, Gmail, and such. I have several blogs and websites that I subscribe to their feed. I really do like using a feed reader as it adds new content directly to my dashboard. It saves me time by not having to visit multiple sites daily. I definitely don't have time to always check these sites daily. I enjoy being able to browse through the content as I wish. I also enjoy being able to search through content by newest or oldest. I do search for posts by newest as I want to see new posts and then click on the articles that interest me.

A couple of things I don't like is that I have to log into one reader which requires internet if I want to see my list or look at the content. Sometimes on my phone I don't have wireless access or might hit a dead spot. The other drawback for me is that I can't easily unsubscribe from a feed. I have some sites that I like to get rid of but am having a hard time as the one click button isn't working on some of the feeds I don't want. Overall, I must say I like Google Reader.

Wikis in Business

Most people think of wiki as the information site about a given topic. Did you know that many businesses are using them as a way to collaborate and save time and money? All users can edit and change the information they share which is faster than using emails and more efficient. A large group of people have the ability to add and/or change information in the document. Dresdner Kleinwort, the investment banking division of Dresdner Bank AG is using wiki as a way to collaborate. This has helped them to reduce emailing time by 75% and meeting times in half. More work can get done without having to co-ordinate schedules. This saves the company time and money. They can also have group projects finished quicker as editing and sharing is done in real time. This is great for global companies. If you aren't using wiki, then you should really look into it.

Update!

I haven't posted on here since March. I have been pretty busy with school and writing my other blogs. For my computer class this semester we have to write a blog. I already have a lot of experience with this, but I am using this blog instead of starting a new one. I really want to start writing on here again. I like sharing my writing and about school.

I did graduate in May 2012 with my AS Degree in General Studies. I am back at school to get work on my BA in General Studies. My son started middle school this year! So far so good. He loves it and has more freedom and responsibility. I am proud of how well he did during this transition. I also started selling It Works! I will post more about it and the 8 week challenge I am starting. I have already lost 25 pounds and only 35 more to go to get back to my lowest weight.

I am pretty upset as my domain expired and I didn't receive a notice from Blogger (Google)! Someone bought my domain! WHAT?!! So I will have to be a blogspot for now but not happy at all and plan to call them to complain. Oh well. I might just change it later to A Cajun Blogger instead since it's available. I need to blog more before I worry about it. Just wanted to update everyone on why I have been MIA. Here are three of my favorite websites.

Get Your Grass Growing with Scotts® Snap® Spreader System

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I live in South Louisiana so we do not get snow, but my grass still has dead patches on it every winter. It's brown and discolored and just doesn't look like nice. I do have sections in my yard where the grass is not lush but very sparse.

Scotts® Snap® Spreader System can help me getting my grass looking lush and pretty. The system is perfect as there is no guess work or heavy lifting. The Snap Pac connects directly to the Snap spreader which makes it very easy to use. I can even do it myself as I won't have to lift heavy bag and try to pour it plus no waste spilling it.

The system is automatically set for the proper flow rate which spreads it nice and evenly all over your yard. The EdgeGuard keeps it from going into my neighbors yard or into my flower beds which is another great feature. I can store it in the garage where it stays nice and neat.  Advertisement

Check out Snap perks on Facebook and "LIKE" Snap Perks so you can kknow about all of Scotts great promotions and contests. The program has already started so don't miss out!

Don't take my word for it and watch the video clip below to learn more about Scotts® Snap® Spreader System.

Don't Forget to Spring Forward Tonight!

Tonight is daylight savings time so we all know what that means. Yes we will lose an hour of sleep. *Sigh* I need all the extra sleep I can get since I'm so busy with school work. I don't have that much time for sleep now. I have 3 papers due by next week, an exam, and I have to watch 4 movies this week for film class. I'm having so much fun with 3 English classes.

Does anyone else loathe springing forward as much as I do? Yes I do love some extra daylight, but I really treasure my sleep. Plus I hate putting my son on the bus while it's still dark outside. It seems like we are springing forward earlier each year, and falling back later. Do you love daylight savings or not?

I've Been a Busy Bee

I have been so busy with school work the last couple of weeks. I just haven't had as much time as I would like to write all my blogs. This is what I get for taking 3 English classes in a semester. Lots of reading and writing. I do love them especially my film class.

I took my first History test today, and I did not do well. I know it. UGH! Some of the questions were super easy, but then many of them were very obscure. The best part was the ones that contradicted themselves. Like what is NOT a way this happened and all the answers were wrong and then we got a all of the above were ways. HUH?! Everyone looked stressed and worried so we shall see. I am so screwed as I have to take four classes to graduate and I only took four. I can't add a new class as it's way too late, and I can't drop. I guess I'm going to have to really buckle down for this class. I know I haven't received my grade yet, but I already checked some of the ones I remembered and it's not looking that great.

On a happier note, I am totally acing all my English classes. That makes me very happy. I had to read the Great Gatsby and watch Jane Campion's The Piano. I will say I liked the Great Gatsby, but I was finding it a bit hard to keep up with the changes of the narrator. Some parts became a little confusing as to what was going on, but overall I do see many parallels of the Jazz period to our own. I guess each generation thinks the world is going to hell in a hand basket. The moral decay of society, the materialism, and extreme consumption. We always think some parts of the country are more tainted than others. I would like to read Tender is the Night soon.

I am taking a film class called Three Female Directors. This is a very interesting class as there aren't many female directors in Hollywood. I never knew about Dorothy Arzner was the first Hollywood female director to make sound movies. There were a few female directors who made silent movies, but Arzner directed both silent and sound movies. She was the only one at the time. Our other main discussion is about "the look". In other words, the theory is we as movie viewers watch the movie through a man's point of view. Since the majority of movies are made by men, then we view women through a man's perception. We as women do this not only in movies but all media including advertisements and print. I won't bore everyone with all the details, but we are watching movies that do seem to defy this theory especially in movies made by females.

The Piano is one where we do see the women as an object to be sold and traded in the Victorian age where women did not have rights. I found the way the story does unfold uses male nudity to make you, as a spectator, feel awkward watching. It is curious to me how as a society, we are mostly fine with seeing women naked, but not men. Even many men feel strange to see a man nude on screen. The more I watch Campion's movies, the more I see how complex the characters are as well as this way of turning that gaze back on the audience. I really connected to Holly Hunter's character and the acting was very well done. I loved the cinematography as well as the costumes. I can see why this movie won Best Original Screenplay.

I do want to write more posts about my film class including movie reviews. I also want to discuss more about the theories were learning in class. I haven't been able to do as much with all this school work. I am getting a couple of papers done this weekend which will help lighten my load a bit.

UPDATE: I just got back my history grade and I made a B! YAY! I will try harder for the next ones. I have three so I am determined to get an A. I won't lose sleep if I end up with a B for the semester. I think I can, I think I can. Now I can stop stressing about dropping it. Whew! That is a huge relief but I will just have to do more studying for this class. He likes to trick you. Maybe his next one won't be so hard.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras was a lot of fun this year. We are the only state that gets Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) off as an actual holiday. I don't know how much of North Louisiana celebrates, but the kids get off 3 days. In some parishes a whole week! I know crazy. I didn't have classes today either! I only go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I meant to do some homework this past weekend, but that didn't happen. I guess since it's the weekend before my birthday and Mardi Gras, that didn't happen. Oh well.

We have one parade that passes in front of our house on Monday nights (Lundi Gras) which is lots of fun. Poor hubby had to work and missed the whole parade. I was sad as it's the first time he's missed a parade since we've lived here of 15 years. We had the family over and we had a great time. Lots of good food plus the infamous king cake.

I wanted to take a picture of the aftermath of a parade. I did not wake up early enough as many of my neighbors already had their sides cleaned. I guess the town is too cheap to a hire a cleaning crew or even a street sweeper. We did clean our yard this afternoon. It wasn't too bad as we are pretty good about picking up right after the parade has passed. Everyone is so sweet to help us so it's not too bad the next day. Another carnival season came and went. My nieces really want us to go to the night parades with them in New Orleans. I did a New Orleans parade once, and I wasn't impressed. Too much shoving for me over some beads. I like my small town and very family orientated parades. I wanted to write a post on some of the history of Mardi Gras, but I've been so busy with school. I promise to write more about it soon.

Clipix Helps You Organize Stuff

I love browsing the internet and find so many great websites, articles, and just stuff I find that I like. How do you keep all that stuff organized? Many of us have tons of bookmarks, but I get tired of trying to keep that all organized so it doesn't become overly cluttered. I might accidentally delete a bookmark. I am tired of this problem. I have found a great solution called clipix!

The video will better explain what the website does for you, but basically it allows you to clip things you like on the internet into clipboards. You drag the clip button into your toolbar, and you are set to clip items you like while surfing the internet. All your clipboards are completely customizable, and you can even keep them private or share with everyone such as Facebook, Twitter, and such. You can also comment on clips or reclip a clip to share. The website is free to use.

You can have as many clipboards as you want. I have a clipboard I created shown below of my wish list. I am always coming across something I like so now I can easily save it (or clip it).

I am also planning to have clipboards for comparison shopping, books, movies, recipes, gift lists, decorating, or anything I want. I am just amazed at the endless possibilities clipix offers me. Another great feature is the free iPhone app you can download. It allows you to take pictures of the items you like and your clipboards on the go. I have downloaded it and love this app. It works very well.

Visit clipix today and start organizing your stuff. So leave me a comment on what you will use clipix for.

Wordless Wednesday: Mardi Gras Mambo

Yes carnival season is here! Next week is Fat Tuesday, but no I am not a parade person. I do have one parade that passes in front of my house on Lundi Gras (the Monday before Fat Tuesday). I walk out my house, catch some beads, and go back inside after it passes.

Season 3 of Swamp People Starts Tonight!

I am excited to watch the season premiere tonight. It is on tonight at 8PM CST on the History Channel. I love this show and find it quite entertaining.

I live in the same parish (county to everyone else) as Troy, but on the opposite end. I have been in those swamps before.

I embedded a clip of the commercial that aired on Super Bowl Sunday. I will say it won't be the same this season not hearing Troy yell at Elizabeth, "Choot 'em Liz! Choot 'em!". It still cracks me up.

I still do not get why the twin brothers, who do not hunt alligators, are on the show. It serves no purpose other than comedy relief I suppose. To me I think it's one more way to make fun of us Cajuns. That's just my humble opinion.

Enjoy the clip, and let me know if you will be watching tonight.

Lessons I Have Learned

lessonsihavelearned
I went back to school to finish my Associate Degree in General Studies. I just wanted the quick degree to get back into the work force. My goal was to work as a teacher's aide. The degree would give a little more money plus I would be one of the few aides with an actual college degree. That degree would also give me job security.

I quickly realized, after a few weeks of classes, that I wanted more for myself. I was tired of constantly settling for second best, and I am worth investing in myself. I now want my Bachelor Degree and am even considering a Master's Degree. Being back in college has helped me to figure out my passions in life which are writing and business. I have always enjoyed business but not to work in a corporate setting. Instead I want to apply those skills to my blogs.

Some of the skills I have learned are:
  • Writing- I am learning more about writing for my audience. Keep your writing concise yet effective.
  • Speech- I have learned how to write and present an effective speech plus power point presentations.
  • Dreamweaver- I am more confident in building and designing sites.
  • Business Writing- This is currently helpful for writing memos, emails, and learning how to collaborate with a group.
I have realized there are more classes I wish to take to help further my knowledge. I want to learn more about marketing, advertising, photography, and public relations. I can accomplish my goal of diversifying my education with a General Studies degree. I will have at least 4 minors and possibly 5 when I graduate with my Bachelor's Degree.

I am already taking my blogs more seriously by writing better content. I want to do more writing for other sites and publications which I have mentioned. I now realize that my college degree will help me to accomplish my goals. I am already fulfilling a major goal of finishing my degree, but am taking it a step further by going for my four year. I just feel I am finally on the right path in my life. I can take all of my past experiences and use them to help shape me into a better person. I will no longer define myself by mistakes, but use those mistakes to shape myself into a success.

Stay Connected and Support Walgreens

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

Walgreens understands the cost of prescription medications are on the rise. They are offering a special discount on their annual membership with its Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens. A family membership is only $35 for the year, which includes spouse, dependents 22 and younger plus your pets. An individual plan is only $20 a year!

The savings plan includes many great benefits other than receiving discount prices on all your prescriptions. You will also receive savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications. Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers, and diabetic supplies. Bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photo services.

I think it is great Walgreens is offering discounts on pet medications as these can be more expensive than your own medications. This savings plan is a great discount for people on a tight budget. I know I am always looking for more ways to cut expenses.

Support Walgreens and stay connected by liking Walgreens on Facebook and following Walgreens on Twitter. I also receive special emails from Walgreens with discounts and coupons. I also receive their weekly ad flyer, and it's sent to my email in advance so I can see the great deals before the sale starts.

Proof the Groundhog Was Wrong

cloverpatchesToday Phil the Groundhog did indeed see his shadow which means six more weeks of winter. The pictures ,I just took outside in my backyard, show quite the contrary. I do realize I live in a sub-tropical climate (Zone 9), but we do get snow from time to time. It doesn't matter that I have only seen it about 4-5 times in my lifetime.

I posted a picture of my blooming azalea bushes last week so I thought I would take pictures of all the clover growing in my yard. I took pictures of where my garden plot is, but as you can see it's overgrown with clover at the moment. I have seen several honeybees in the last week buzzing around the clover. I was looking for a four leaf clover, but no luck. I have only found one so far in my life as a kid. I keep looking each year.

We had a very bad thunderstorm pass last year, and we had a huge boom. It really sounded like a bomb went off but it was lightening hitting my pecan tree. It killed off what was left of the tree which was here before the house was built in 1957. The tree is well over 100 years old according to my husband's grandfather. My husband knows a guy who is going to come over to cut it down for for us free of charge. He gets the wood for his firewood company to sell, and I get to save a few hundred dollars. It's a win win situation. I will be sad to the tree go, but better for it to be cut down then fall on my house during the next hurricane.

This very last picture is of my Japanese Plum tree. We planted it about 18 months ago, and it is already more than doubled in size. I need to add more fertilizer around it later this month.

I really want to plant more fruit trees, but dwarf size trees. I want to keep them under 15' feet tall. My plan is to have several fruit trees and bushes to keep me in fruit all year long. We are going to buy a couple of Satsuma trees this year. I would like 2 trees of the same variety so I can get double. What you are planting this spring? Any fruit trees or bushes?

A Living Nightmare Poem

ALivingNightmarePoem
A Living Nightmare

The clock ticks as I shudder in the night,
And beads of sweat adorn my ashen face.
My heart beats madly as these thoughts take flight,
And a piercing scream just cannot take place.
The secret thoughts inside my grotesque mind
Which gnaws hungrily at my weary heart.
As evil shrouds in my heart what is kind,
The chaos settles and the light shall part.
My soul is shattered because of the pain
Yet my torment has only just begun.
It is easy for others who are sane,
But my mind is too dark to see the sun.
The only valid way out is to flee
For leaving this existence is the key.

Back in School

thecajunbloggerinschool
I started classes this past Thursday. It feels weird being back, but at least I know people this time in all three of my classes on campus. Call me a bit strange, but I am taking 3 English classes all with the same professor. I know but this guy is a great teacher. I really enjoy the way he teaches. One class is online. I already see there is a lot of writing and reading, but I like a challenge. I am taking a history class, and this professor was there when I started Nicholls back in 1993! He really gets into his lectures so I will not be bored. There will be a lot of note taking. I'm glad I took Louisiana Government last semester as the history Professor is making many references to Louisiana and politics. I am able to follow him better.

One of my English classes is an American Literature, and we are discussing Romanticism which I just learned about in Music Appreciation. Many of classes make lots of cross-references to one another. See kids, what you learn in school will be useful to you later. It's hard to make that connection now, but you will understand it more as you get older.

I was having trouble with my password so I couldn't get into Moodle or my email until yesterday. I am not getting my books until Tuesday. I won't need them except for my online class as I have an assignment (writing a memo) and a chapter quiz due tomorrow. Oh well, I hope I can find some information online to help me. As long as I don't fail them, then I should be fine. I don't think I will do too badly. The classes are a little faster paced than last semester. I guess it will take a couple of weeks to get back into the swing again. I'm just glad I graduate in May. I'm still debating if I will go back in fall to work on my BA.

I will still try to keep up with my blogs as best as I can. If I don't post as much one this one and Robbie's Corner, then you will know why I am not posting as much. May will be here before I know it. I still can't believe I finally took the plunge and will receive my degree. One major life goal completed in less than 4 months!

Speeding on the Information Highway

surfingtheinternet
I just upgraded my internet with Charter to the 30Mbps today, and I am flying on the internet. I should have upgraded months ago. I am paying $10 more monthly, but I can do things in seconds which took me minutes. I was having lots of trouble with pages and downloads timing out. Entrecard was my biggest nightmare. It would take me almost 3 hours to drop 300 cards on just one blog. I need to drop for three blogs. I got sick of being tied to my computer this way.

Now I was able to drop 300 cards on one blog in less than 30 minutes! I am beyond excited. I will have more time to network, post on other blogs, and follow others on social networks. I feel the extra $10 is worth the time I'm saving. I will be able to drop for all three blogs in an hour which is still saving me 2 hours for just one blog! I just had to share my exciting news with my fellow droppers. I know you guys will understand. Happy networking and everyone will be seeing much more of all three blogs.

My Son the Tween

robbieopeningpresentsWe had a very busy weekend with celebrating my son's birthday on Saturday, and afterwards his cousin slept over that night. My son is now a tween, and only a couple of years away from the wonderful teen years. I swear some days he already acts like a teenager. He wants to dress like one, talk like one, and play mature video games. I put my foot down on the last one. Of course he notices pretty women. Not girls his age, but older teenage girls and even women! He is driving me crazy. I'm sooo not ready for this stage of his life. Can I just skip it? Or maybe keep him young forever? I guess not, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

stashofpresentsThe party was just a small gathering of family, and I have a feeling the last one for him. I think we will just start grabbing a friend or two to do something fun for his birthday. I would love to do laser tag. Forget the kids because I want to play.

I will say I do like my son having his birthday after Christmas as I can pick up stuff 50% or more! I got him a few goodies from Rue21 very cheaply. I love the ear buds I picked up for $5. They are not wired but a thicker rubber coating which reminds me of shoelaces. I also picked up 2 hats for $3 each. He is still too small to wear the clothing, but he loves the accessories. He can wear men sized shoes, but he already has too many pairs. This kid has more clothes in his closet than I do or my husband. I'm just glad he's not a girl. He sure is getting expensive like a teenager.

I was having a hard time capturing great pictures as he was more worried about opening than posing. He couldn't open his presents fast enough. He did get a few toys, but I have a feeling this is also the last year for toys. He might get Nerf guns in the future, but I don't see too many more action figures in his future. You wouldn't think by the pile of presents that he just had Christmas! He loves the new bed set which I paid $40 for both the comforter and sheet set! I just couldn't pass up that deal, and it matches his new room theme perfectly. I just can't believe another year has passed.

dinosaurcupcakeHe's not a total teen yet as he picked out a dinosaur themed birthday cake. This was actually a cupcake cake, but they overdid the icing. That whole cake was more icing than cake. We ended up scraping off over half the icing off each cupcake. It was so sweet. I feel like I wasted $20, but at least it was nicely decorated. This is the last year I will have to buy a cake of this size. In the future we will do a very small dessert for him. I wouldn't even mind a small king cake. Yes they make king cakes right after Christmas.

Sweet Tranquility Poem

I wanted to share another poem I wrote a day or two after my first one. I will share an old poem I wrote at least once a week. I am inspired to write new ones hopefully this year. I don't want to overload myself so new poems may have to wait. I really want to get my book written first.

Sweet Tranquility

Only the crashing waves shall keep me sane
Which beckons me in the dead of the night.
A melody is drummed out by the rain
That lures me into sleep I cannot fight.
Voices inside my head awaken me,
And I am tempted to go to the source.
In my slumber I wandered to the sea
For my restless mind knew the exact course.
The inviting waves are very soothing
While I lose myself in a black dream.
The sounds were lost as my mind kept moving,
And the peace I have sought was in this realm.
All of her mysteries were mine to solve
Now that my spirit was free to evolve.
